Argentina is the eighth-largest country in the world, the second largest in Latin America, and the largest Spanish-speaking nation.
A country that prides itself on its great food, it's no surprise that there are a number of Argentinian restaurants in Chicago. In fact, as you soon will find out, some even offer tango nights!
Argentina's food is influenced by its closeness to the sea and the many borders they share with other countries of the region. Also, it maintains some of the dishes that were brought by the Spaniards when they discovered America (specially by the Moors who had to travel to the new continent after they were forced out by the Spaniards).
As such, the variety of flavors, customs and culture it has to offer is quite diverse. Here we made a list of what many consider are the must haves of Argentinean cuisine.
To Eat and Drink
-
Asado aka parrillada (or barbecue)
-
Chimichurri (condiment)
-
Empanadas
-
Milanesa
-
Dulce de Leche
-
Alfajores
-
Argentinian wine! (Malbec or Merlot work)
-
Sangria
We made sure that the following restaurants we're suggesting have most of the items we previously listed.
Also, when eating a parrillada, do pair it with a nice glass of Malbec, a must for Argentinians when they're eating. After that, make sure of having a dessert that includes their famous Dulce de Leche, which has a similar flavor to caramel but is thicker since it comes from milk.
