Ecuador
Ecuador is located on South America's west coast. It is formed by four different regions that have their own gastronomical traditions.
Nevertheless, a typical Ecuadorian dish is usually formed by having a protein (chicken, steak, pork, etc.) with a carbohydrate. In the coast, seafood is also used since it is caught fresh from the sea. In the mountainous regions we see more plants and carbohydrates like potatoes, yucca or mote.
Hence, food in Ecuador can vary on the region where you're eating. Still, most meals in Ecuador tend to heavily rely on beans, rice or potato (since the land is fertile to grow them in the whole country).
Another popular ingredient in Ecuador is cacao and bananas. Hence, sweets in Ecuador tend to include these ingredients when they can.
Some typical Ecuadorian dishes that can be found on any part of the country are:
To Eat and Drink
-
Seco de Pollo (chicken but it can also be of pork)
-
Locro de papa (potato soup)
-
Bolon (made of plantain and includes cheese)
-
Ceviche (but unlike the Peruvian this one has tomato sauce)
-
Llapingachos (rice, fried egg, chorizo and a fried potato cake)
-
Fanesca (only made during easter is a soup that uses fish and beans).
-
Pan de yuca (Ecuadorians mix it with drinkable fruit yogurt)
-
Arroz con leche (a dessert made of rice and milk)
Most of the restaurants that we are listing have the dishes that we just mentioned, making emphasis on having general Ecuadorian food that is known to all people and sharing what it would be like to eat in Ecuador.
